Chairman J. W. Fulbright of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee made known yesterday that his committee will not hold hearings on a Senate resolution concerning Soviet anti-Semitism this year because the committee is too busy with other matters.
In a letter to Sen. Kenneth B. Keating, New York Republican, Sen. Fulbright said the committee had an “extremely heavy work load this year” and unable to get around to the proposed resolution “condemning persecution by the Soviet Union of persons because of their religion.” He promised to notify Sen. Keating when it is possible to schedule hearings.
Sen. Keating commented: “I deeply regret the fact the Foreign Relations Committee is not scheduling hearings on this bill, introduced more than two months ago. I will certainly be urging high priority for the measure in the early days of the next session, for I believe it is a matter of great importance.”
