A resolution demanding complete investigation of a “resurgence of intensive anti-Semitism and militant nationalism” in the U.S. zone of Germany was submitted today in the Senate by four Senators. The sponsors are Senators Claude Pepper of Florida, Guy M. Gillette of Iowa, Robert C. Hendrickson of New Jersey, and Irving M. Ives of New York.
The resolution follows in the wake of a visit here Monday by representatives of the American Jewish Congress who called on Sen. Pepper and other members of Congress to protest failure of the denazification program. The investigation would be conducted by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. In addition to probing anti-Semitism, it would seek to determine the result of transferring responsibility for denazification to the German authorities, and would check whether there is a rise of strong new political parties based on Nazi doctrine and militarism.
