The Senate Armed Services Committee today defeated by a vote of 7 to 6 an amendment to reduce by $400,000,000 the amount of mutual security assistance proposed by the Senate version of the Foreign Aid Bill.
Under this amendment the combined economic and technical assistance for Israel would have been reduced from approximately $69,000,000 to about $65,000,000. The Armed Services Committee reported the bill back to the Senate without making the proposed reduction.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee several days ago reduced the total proposed allocation for mutual security by $1,000,000,000. The bill was reported out to the Senate and then referred to the Armed Services Committee for additional study.
