Sen. Irving M. Ives, of New York, said today a Senate labor subcommittee which he heads would open hearings in the second week of January on a bill making it illegal to discriminate in employment because of race or religion.
Sen. Ives, who sponsored the bill along with 17 other senators of both parties, offered favorable comment on President Eisenhower’s new anti-discriminatory committee for government contracts. He said the Eisenhower program would not affect efforts to gain passage of the proposed bill.
