Five more Senators today became co-sponsors of the bi-partisan resolution opposing Arab discrimination against American Jews on religious grounds. The resolution was introduced in the Senate yesterday by Senators Herbert Lehman, Paul Douglas and William Langer and will be available tomorrow to other Senators who may like to become co-sponsors.
The five Senators who lent their support to the resolution today are Irving M. Ives and Frederick G. Payne, Republicans, and Wayne Morse, Henry Jackson and James Murray, Democrats.
The State Department was criticized strongly in the Senate today for refusing to obtain visas for travel in Arab states for members of both Houses of Congress whose itineraries also include Israel. The criticism was voiced from the floor of the Senate by Sen. Mike Monroney, of Oklahoma. He called the State Department policy “cowardly.” “I know of no time when the Government of the United States has been so intimidated,” he stated.
