Although the present Roumanian government does not desire anti-Semitic excesses, it is not suppressing violent anti-Semitism with force, declared Senator Meyer Ebner, president of the Parliamentary Jewish Club, in an interview with the representative of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency. Pointing out that after one year of comparative quiet achieved through the Maniu government’s influence over the Cuzist students, anti-Semitic agitation has now again been renewed, Senator Ebner discussed the grounds for the excesses.
In the first place he finds still existent an anti-Semitic mentality among certain intellectual classes. The continuation of the excitement in Jassy, the center of the Cuzists, and the general economic crisis prevailing, with the accompanying dissatisfaction of the population directed against the Jews, are other reasons for the current wave of anti-Semitism in Roumania, declares Senator Ebner.
He also finds that the opposition parties are probably supporting directly or indirectly, but in secret, the Cuzists’ agitation in order to embarass the government and to create a cause for its downfall. The fact that the
