The Roumanian government has not followed up its promises for action and has done nothing to check the growth of anti-Semitism in Roumania and to influence the people not to believe the Jews are outside the law while the anti-Semites are above the law.

This statement was made in the Roumanian Senate by the Jewish Senator, Dr. Meyer Ebner, of Czernowitz. He was interrupted by the Minister of Justice, who exclaimed:

“It is an insult to justice.”

Dr. Ebner retorted by quoting a number of cases of anti-Semitic attacks which have never been punished. He emphasized that the authorities tolerate the organs of the well-known anti-Semitic leader, Professor Cuza, in which he openly appeals for the massmurder of Jews, the burning of synagogues and the expulsion of the Jews from the villages.
