Senator Hails Israel’s Foreign Aid Program As ‘generous, Effective’

Senator William Proxmire, Wisconsin Democrat, hailed Israel’s foreign aid program as “the most generous and by far the most effective” one of any country in the world. Addressing a dinner of the World Jewish Congress here. Sen. Proxmire cited Israel’s Peace Corps-type projects in African and Asian countries, which, he said, in relation to Israel’s population, was “ten times greater than that of the United States.”

Other speakers at the dinner included California Governor Edmund G. Brown; Samuel Bronfman, vice-president of the World Jewish Congress; and Rabbi Max Nussbaum, chairman of the American section of the WJC. John Factor of Los Angeles was presented with the WJC Humanitarian Award.
