The sentences of two displaced Jews convicted last May of having participated in a riot between Jews and German civilians in the town of Oberammingen on March 28, have been upheld by the legal division of the military government of Bavaria, it was learned today.
The appeal against the sentence of one year imposed on David Barwiner, leader of the DP’s and the six months given Herman Schwartz, was denied despite the fact that the Jewish Agency was prepared to offer them Palestine immigration certificates immediately.
The sentences will now be reviewed by the military governor of Bavaria, after which they will be sent to Berlin where the headquarters of the American government in Germany will make the final decision.
