Rabbi Jacob Meir, the Chief Rabbi of the Sephardic Community in Palestine, has sent a letter to King Feisal of Iraq, who arrived here this morning on his way back to Baghdad after his stay in Europe, explaining that while he would have liked to have welcomed him at the station he has been unable to do so, because it is the Sabbath, so that he cannot ride, while owing to his age it is impossible for him to walk there. At the same time, he says, he is anxious to express on behalf of himself and on behalf of the Sephardic Community of Palestine their appreciation of His Majesty’s friendly attitude towards the Jews of Iraq and the protection which he and his Government afford them as equal citizens of the country under his rule. He also thanks King Feisal for the decoration conferred on him by his father, the late King Hussein, describing it as an honour to Sephardic Jewry in Palestine through the person of their spiritual chief.
