Serbian Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic, who was assassinated Wednesday, was a friend of the local Jewish community. One year ago, on March 17, 2002, Djindjic visited the Jewish community in the northern Serbian city of Subotica and pledged support for efforts to restore an abandoned synagogue there.
