Dr. Robert Servatius, defense attorney for Adolf Eichmann, the Nazi war criminal who directed the mass killing of 6,000,000 Jews in Europe during the Second World War, attempted this weekend to prevent the publication of Eichmann’s memoirs in the afternoon daily, Yediot Ahronot.
Claiming that the memoirs related to issues which would be brought before the court during the trial which opens in Jerusalem in mid-April, Dr. Servatius telegraphed the paper that publication would mean contempt of court.
After the editor of Yediot Ahronot rejected the attorney’s protest on the grounds that much of the material and other facts about Eichmann had already been published by Life and other publications the paper appeared with a two-page Eichmann story accompanied by photostatic reproductions of material in Eichmann’s own handwriting.
After failing to secure a court order barring the publication of the material, Dr. Servatius said he would leave it to the Ministry of Justice to take action on the matter.
