Dr. Emanuel Lasker, world chess champion for 27 years up to 1921, died Saturday at the age of 72 of uremic poisoning at Mt. Sinai Hospital. He had been ill for 11 days during which time he received two blood transfusions.
Born near Berlin in 1868, Lasker began playing chess at the age of 12. He came to New York during the 1890’s. He is survived by his widow. Funeral services were held today at the Spanish-Portuguese Synagogue, conducted by Rabbi David de Sola Pool.
