Funeral services will be held this morning at Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun, 117 East Eighty-fifth Street, for Meyer Vesell, a director of the Beth Israel Hospital since 1897 and a founder of the Jewish Center on West Eighty-sixth Street.
Mr. Vesell, who died Wednesday at 74, was for many years in the cloak manufacturing business. Noted for his zeal in the cause of charity, Mr. Vesell was among those responsible for the raising of funds to build the Beth Israel Hospital and was chairman of the building committee before there was a directorate. He was also a trustee of Congregation Kehilath Jeshurun and a director of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary and Yeshiva College.
Mr. Vesell’s daughter, Saide, is the wife of Borough President Samuel Levy of Manhattan.
High tribute was voiced yesterday for Mr. Vesell’s “unselfish service” in the cause of philanthropy by Frederick Margaretten, president of the congregation, and Otto A. Rosalsky, president of Beth Israel Hospital.
