Final settlement of all claims against the Austrian Government by persons who suffered racial or political persecution between 1934 and 1945 is “urgent,” Vice Chancellor Bruno Pittermann, a Social Democrat, declared today. Thanks to the present favorable political atmosphere in this country, a definite solution to this problem can now be found, Mr. Pittermann told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
Relief funds–under restitution legislation already on the books–has been granted, so far, to 10,000 persecutes living a bread, according to a government announcement here today.
