Settler leaders elected the mayor of Israel’s largest settlement to serve as chairman of the Council of Jewish Settlements. Benny Kashriel, of Ma’aleh Adumim, will represent some 172,000 settlers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. He replaces Pinchas Wallerstein, who stepped down after former Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was defeated in the May elections.
