Settler rabbis accused the Israeli government of “turning the other cheek” in its counterterrorism efforts. “We refuse to be agitated by those who preach a Christian morality of turning the other cheek, or to be impressed by those who have descended to the ethical and logical nadir of preferring the lives of our enemies over our own lives,” the rabbis said in an edict issued Tuesday, alluding to Israel’s policy of limiting innocent Palestinian casualties during operations in the West Bank and Gaza Strip despite the added risk this can pose to Israeli troops.
