Seven Jewish youths were arrested last night by Egyptian police following yesterday’s heavy explosions in this city’s Jewish quarter which took the lives of at least 20 persons and wounded 41 others.
Saleh Murtaga Bey, police chief, told newsmen he believed the blasts were accidental, resulting from the faulty storage of materials the Jews used in the manufacture of fireworks. Nevertheless, he added, police are still seeking five Moslem youths who lived in a house in the center of the quarter and who have not been heard from since the explosion occurred.
