Sir Martin Conway, Conservative member of the House of Commons, presided over a meeting held here last night to launch the Seventh Dominion idea aiming to create in Palestine such conditions favorable to the development of the Jewish National Home, so that after the expiration of the Mandate, the country will voluntarily decide to become a part of the British Empire as its Seventh Dominion.
Col. Josiah Wedgwood, the originator of the movement, Lieutenant-Commander Kenworthy, Sir Robert Hamilton, Liberal M. P., and Joseph Cowen, Zionist, were among the speakers. Sir Martin Conway, as chairman, emphasized that the movement will not be hostile to the Arabs. The Seventh Dominion League will even expect Arab support, he stated.
Other speakers emphasized that the creation of the Seventh Dominion in Palestine is not motivated by an imperialistic idea. What is intended is merely that Palestine become a free and independent country under the protection of the British fleet.
Mr. Cowen drew attention to the difficulty which will be encountered by non-British Zionists who could not support the idea. Commander Kenworthy in replying to this remark, expressed his belief that American Jewry, recognizing Great Britain as the Mandatory Power over Palestine, will take a friendly attitude towards the means for achieving the Zionist aim.
The meeting was held in a small hall which was overcrowded. The number of non-Jews present was very small.
