Several days before his death, Luigi Luzzatti, in an interview with a correspondent of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, expressed his views on the situation of the Jews at the present time. “The Jews were the most persecuted people during the last two thousand years and they deserved persecution least of all,” the statesman declared. Luzzatti expressed particular concern during this interview over the situation of the Jews in Roumania.
