Several foreign police forces have expressed interest in a hashish detection device developed by two scientists at Ben Gurion University in Beersheba, Prof. Avinoam Livneh and Avital Schorr. The device, already used by the Israeli police force, consists of a plastic “dip tester” with a small chemically-impregnated sponge at its end. The sensitive chemical compound reacts immediately to any traces of hashish in body liquids such as saliva, urines or blood. The sponge turns purple. According to a university official, the detector is especially useful in situations requiring immediate confirmation of suspected use of hashish.
