The signatories included Nobel Prize winners Kenneth Arrow, Owen Chamberlain and Paul Flory; film directors Francois Truffaut, Alain Resnais and Jacques Tati; authors Mary McCarthy, Saul Bellow, and Philip Roth; and actors Yves Montaud, Simone Signoret, Jeanne Moreau and Francoise Fabian.
