Several hundred Polish Jews were believed to be among the 2,500 Polish civilian internees released by the Soviet Union and returned to Poland since December 1, according to reports in Polish newspapers reaching here today.
Hundreds of thousands of Polish citizens fled into the USSR when the Nazis invaded Poland in 1939 and were later interned and sent to labor camps in Siberia and elsewhere. The Polish Government has requested the return of all those who still remain in the USSR and the first groups have already arrived on Polish soil, the Polish newspapers report.
