Dedication exercises for the new synagogue of the Congregation Ohab Zedek, at 120 West Ninety-fifth Street, New York City, were conducted Sunday afternoon, with 1,000 persons in attendance, among them a number of public officials. The new synagogue was erected as a cost of over $300,000.
Those present included Samuel Koenig, chairman of the New York County Republican Committee; Attorney General Albert Ottinger, Health Commissioner Louis I. Harris, Judge Otto Rosalsky and Justice Gustave Hartman.
Cantor Josef Rosenblatt sang at the exercises. Rabbi Isaiah Levy, head of the synagogue, was welcomed by Marcus J. Sederman, president of the congregation, and Louis Friedman, chairman of the board of trustees.
The congregation was founded in 1873 on Houston Street, later moving to Norfolk Street and then to West 116th Street. Among the speakers were Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein, president of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations, and Rabbi M. S. Margolis.
The Jewish Community Center of Jackson Heights, L. I., was dedicated last Sunday.
The new Jewish Community Center at Woodside Avenue and Seventy-third Street, will be formally opened at 3 p. m. tomorrow, when the dedication of the edifice will take place.
The center has a gymnasium, auditorium and classrooms.
The auditorium has a seating capacity of 700. The auditorium also contains two balconies, one of which will be used by the choir and the other for an organ.
The top floor contains three classrooms, a lecture room and a library, as well as meeting rooms for clubs.
The structure cost $125,000 and is made of brick with terra cotta trimming.
Judge Gustave Hartman presided at the dedication ceremonies. Former Congressman Isaac Siegal, Judge Strahl, Rabbi Herbert Goldstein and Dr. Henry Slonimsky addressed the gathering.
The cornerstone of the Jewish community house of Bensonhurst was laid on Sunday with impressive ceremonies.
Borough President James J. Byrne officially dedicated the building.
The new building will have a large gymnasium, two auditoriums and dining halls and a swimming pool. There will be two large groups of study and social rooms.
The Building Committee is composed of Lee Levy, Morris Baird, Samuel Brill, Irvin S. Chanin, Henry I. Chanin, I. Levinson and Isaac Meister.
Officers are: Herman Neaderland, President; Irvin S. Chanin, N. C. Greenfield, Eli A. Guthman, Samuel Kramer and Lee Levy, Vice Presidents; I. Greenwald, Treasurer; F. Goldberger, Secretary and Herman Jacobs, Executive Director.
The building will be erected as a cost of $500,000.
