Several prominent Rhodes Scholars condemned the proposed British boycott of Israeli academic institutions. “As Rhodes Scholars, we find this proposed boycott to be unjustified and an egregious violation of the basic rules of the academic community,” said the statement, released Tuesday through the American Jewish Congress. “Singling out Israeli universities for censure also suggests an unjust double standard and unfair prejudice against the Jewish state.” Among the signatories are author T.A. Barron; the former dean of the Kennedy School of Government, James Merrell; and former Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke. “We are pleased that prominent Americans have joined us in confronting the blatant anti-Israel bias of the British university lecturers union,” said AJCongress President Richard Gordon.
