Shamir to Convene Conference to Help Create Jobs for Olim

Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir is looking to Diaspora Jewish business leaders to help create jobs for new immigrants.

On Wednesday, he announced at a meeting of Likud ministers that he planned to convene an international conference of Jewish businessmen financiers and economists to stimulate investment in Israel. The plan was unanimously approved.

Shamir said aliyah itself should spur investments in Israeli industry because of the high proportion of well-trained personnel arriving from the Soviet Union.

He said that industrial growth, building need factories and expanding existing ones would provide the jobs needed to absorb the newcomers.
