An appeal for funds for the construction of a synagogue, not to be dedicated to religious matters alone, but to Jewish national cultural activities as well, was made by the financial committee elected during a recent meeting of the Ashkenazi Jews and the committee of the Ohel Moishe Synagogue. The meeting was called to discuss the problem of creating a Jewish national cultural centre in view of the growing Jewish population in Shanghai. It was regarded as a necessity by the gathering to build a synagogue which will also have enough space for cultural gatherings. In order to carry out the resolution, a construction committee to present the best plans for such a building, and a financial committee to obtain the necessary funds were created at teh meeting.
