The Israel Cabinet today appointed Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett Acting Premier during Premier David Ben Gurion’s visit to the United States. Mr. Sharett will also replace Mr. Ben Gurion in the post of Minister for Defense. Premier Ben Gurion will leave for the United States during the first week of May.
The Cabinet heard a report by Minister Sharett on the Israeli-Syrian conflict and on developments at the United Nations Security Council in connection with it. It was reported at the Cabinet session that the work of draining the Huleh swamps–which precipitated the Israeli-Syrian dispute–continues without further incident.
