Moshe Sharett, Foreign Minister of Israel, arrived here late yesterday on the fourth leg of his Latin American goodwill tour. He was met at the airport by Brazilian Foreign Minister Joao Neves de Fontoura, Israeli Minister to Brazil David Shalteil, leaders of the Jewish community and a large crowd of local Jews including schoolchildren.
Speaking to newsmen at the airport, Mr. Sharett said that he was anxious to visit this friendly nation whose representative at the United Nations had contributed so much to the establishment of Israel as an independent state. Mr. Sharett will remain in Brazil for a week.
Before leaving Uruguay, Mr. Sharett received from Montevideo Jewish leaders a check for $100,000 as the first installment of the 1953 receipts of the United Campaign of Uruguay. On his last night in the Uruguayan capital Mr. Sharett gave a reception for Dr. F. Pittaluga, Uruguayan Foreign Minister, and other government figures.
