Premier Moshe Sharett and Premier-designate David Ben Gurion reported to the Parliamentary Security and Foreign Affairs Committee today on the Egyptian arms situation as well as developments referring to Egypt’s blockade of the Suez Canal and the entrance to the Gulf of Akaba.
Mr. Ben Gurion, who is Defense Minister, also elaborated on a report on the status of Israel’s armaments and its arms industry given earlier this week by Shimon Peress, director general of the Defense Ministry. Mr. Peress, who reported great progress in equiping Israel’s armed forces, noted however that Israel must now speed up its equipment program to meet the challenge of the Communist bloc’s supplying Egypt with munitions.
