Political defence of Israel, its economic development and the strengthening of its ties with the Diaspora, were described by Prime Minister Sharett last night as the three major tasks facing the new Israel Government. He was cheered loudly by the audience at a Mapai meeting here when he declared that the present coalition government is a vital necessity for the state.
This was the first time Mr. Sharett addressed a public meeting since he became head of the government. The meeting was attended by huge crowds and thousands, being unable to enter, remained in the street and listened to the speech over loudspeakers.
