Former Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Israel Moshe Sharett has accepted an invitation to address the annual national conference of the United Jewish Appeal which convenes December 14 and 15 in New York City to plan the UJA s 20th campaign for Israel’s newcomers and for refugee and oppressed Jews overseas it was announced today by William Rosenwald, UJA general chairman. More than 1000 American Jewish leaders from communities in all parts of the country are expected to attend the conference.
The conference will set goals for the 1958 drive, elect officers and officially wind up this year’s campaign. Marking the final effort for the current year, proceeds of the Cash Collection Drive will be turned over to redeem UJA pledges made during 1957 for both the regular and $100,000,000 Emergency Rescue Fund drive.
Conference delegates will hear a report of the 100-man UJA Overseas Study Mission recently returned from an on-the-spot survey of the work and needs of UJA-supported agencies conducting aid programs in Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and helping the people of Israel cope with the tremendous influx of Jewish refugees seeking a new start there. They also will hear of developments concerning new opportunities, provided by the Polish Government, to help thousands of Polish Jews being repatriated from Russia
