Israel’s Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett who conferred yesterday with Secretary of State Dean Acheson, will spend an intensive week-end in Washington where he will meet with top government officials in reviews of American-Israel relations, with particular reference to Israel’s present economic difficulties, it was learned here today.
Immediately following his talks in Washington, Mr. Sharett will fly to Canada where, apart from appearing at public Jewish meetings in Toronto, Montreal and Ottawa, he will confer with Lester Pearson, Canadian Minister for External Affairs, and other members of the Canadian Government.
Upon his return from Canada to New York, Mr. Sharett will confer with leaders of the United Jewish Appeal and the Israel bond drive on the problems facing these two organizations. Sources close to the Israel Foreign Minister today indicated that preliminary investigations conducted by Mr. Sharett into these problems have revealed that “the differences, if such there were, were extremely narrow.” They expressed confidence that these differences can be resolved during Mr. Sharett’s stay in the United States.
Israel circles here are generally pleased by the enthusiastic reception given Mr. Sharett, who in the first four weeks in this country visited 15 cities, speaking either for the U.J.A. or for the Israel bond drive. It is estimated that he addressed 75,000 people.
