Israel Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett today expressed his government’s concern over the fate of a group of 240 Jews now in Constanza who were prevented by the Rumanian Government from boarding an Israel transport expressly dispatched to the Rumanian port city to bring them to Haifa.
In an interview with the Rumanian Minister here, M. Cioroiu, Mr. Sharett received assurances that the matter would be referred to the Bucharest authorities. Earlier, the Foreign Minister here received a report from the Israel legation in Bucharest stating that Rumania had not issued authorization for the embarkation of the 240 immigrants. The immigrants include Polish Jews who have been living in Rumania as well as native Rumanian Jews. All of them had received exit visas prior to the Rumanian ban on emigration.
