Sharona, the girl lusted after by generations of fans of the Knack, is a real person and is Jewish, the writer of “My Sharona” revealed. A Washington Post gossip columnist interviewed the group’s lead singer, Doug Fieger, after the recent revelation that the song is programmed into President Bush’s iPod as an exercise accompaniment. The 1979 chart-topper is based on Fieger’s onetime fiancee.
