Israel President Zalman Shazar, who arrived here on Friday en route to four South American countries, spent a quiet weekend in Paris holding no political meetings. Although his visit here is of a private nature, he was met at the Orly Airport with official fanfare and was escorted into the city by a vanguard of motorcycle police.
President Shazar and his party are scheduled to leave France tomorrow by air for Uruguay, where he will spend five days on a state visit prior to his proceeding for state visits to Chile, Argentina and Brazil. He will then fly to the United States for a private visit that will include a meeting with President Johnson in Washington, where he will probably stay at Blair House, A meeting has also been arranged for him with U. N. Secretary-General U Thant, during his stay in New York.
Upon his arrival in Paris, President Shazar said that his good will tour of Latin America was aimed at further strengthening of Israel’s ties with the South American lands that he will visit. He said that, on his tour, he will also meet with the leaders of the local Jewish communities.
