Sheenan, in Magazine Article, Voices High Praise of J.t.a. Berlin Reporter

Victor H. Bernstein J.T.A. correspondent in Berlin, is described as “the able and courageous correspondent in Berlin of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency” by Vincent Sheena, noted newspaper correspondent and author, in survey of the persecution of Jews in Germany appearing in the February issue of Rebook magazine. Mr. Sheena quotes from the summary of events in Germany written by Mr. Bernstein in a Rosh Hashonah article last September.

The German persecution, Mr. Sheena says, differs from previous oppression of Jews in that it is “total.” He declares: “It recognizes no exceptions, tolerates no protest, considers no variation or mitigation of the main line of policy. That policy is firmly fixed and boldly proclaimed. It is the intention of the National Socialist Party dictatorship in Germany to rob the Jews of their material possessions and thrust them penniless into the outside world. Whatever incidental suffering may come to the Jews during the process by means of physical indignity, murder, beatings, starvation or distress of soul, is regarded by the Nazi regime as a natural and desirable thing –partly a punishment for the misdeeds of the Jewish race, partly a practical means of hastening the emigration of all German Jews to other lands.”
