A sign “No Jews Allowed”, placed on the Troy-Hoosick Falls Road by the proprietor of an automobile service station and refreshment stand, has been ordered removed by Sheriff Herman C. Schneider after he received a formal complaint from Jeseph Hormats, president of the Brotherhood of Beth El Congregation.
Two signs had been placed on the road adjacent to the bathing poll on the grounds owned by the service station proprietor. One read, “No dogs allowed” and the other, “No Jews allowed.”
In ordering the offensive sign removed, the sheriff pointed out that the posting of such signs is clearly a violation of Article 4, Section 4 of the Civil Rights Act, which prohibits owners of public places such as this to discriminate between people because of color, nationality or creed.
