Moshe Shertok, head of the political department of the Jewish Agency, said today that it was not yet clear whether the Palestine question will be submitted to the United Nations, nor whether if the U.N. acts, its rescommendations will be carried out.
Addressing a closed meeting of leaders of the Palestine Labor Party, Shertok stressed the importance of continued negotiations by the Jewish Agency with the American Government. He added that the Zionists will go before the U.N., if the occasion arises, with demands for a Jewish state based on their rights as outlined in the Mandate, the plight of European Jewry and the strength of the Jewish community here.
The Agency political chief hit out at extremists, stating that external terrorism is always followed by internal terrorism. A closed meeting of the Labor Party’s central committee was scheduled to meet late today to discuss the problem of terrorism and the general political situation.
The first meeting of the committee appointed last week to adapt the Jewish Agency constitution to the changed world conditions met here today under the chairmanship of David Ben Gurion. The committee will consider the question of convening a session of the Agency council.
The presidium of the Zionist Actions Committee convened today, and reportedly approved the calling of a full meeting of the Committee in New York on May 12.
