Funeral services were held in Haifa today for Shimon Leib Shimoni, a Yiddish author, who died last night at the age of 74. Mr. Shimoni came to Palestine 50 years ago from Subalki, Poland and was active in the workers movement. He served as director of the control committee of the Histadrut Sick Fund, headed the survey department during the British Mandatory regime and later served with Israel’s Labor Ministry until he was pensioned in 1967. During his lifetime he published seven books in Yiddish on Israeli life and other aspects of the country. His eighth book will be published posthumously.
