Shimon Peres congratulated Al Gore on winning the Nobel Peace Prize.
The Israeli president telephoned Gore over the weekend after the former U.S. vice president turned environmental activist was named for the prize, Yediot Achronot reported.
"Of all those who won the Nobel Peace Prize, Al Gore is the one who most obviously deserves it," Peres, himself a Nobel laureate, told the newspaper.
Peres praised Gore for his campaign to raise international awareness over the threat posed by global warming. Gore plans to visit Israel next year for an environmental conference headed by Peres.
"You should know that I am most excited to have the honor of being alongside Shimon Peres on the list of Nobel Peace Prize winners," Gore told the Israeli president, according to Yediot.
