Shimon Peres said his Labor Party could join Israel’s government. “If we are approached and in an open manner, we will raise the matter in the party forums,” Peres said Wednesday, referring to media speculation that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon could ask Labor to join the Likud Party in a broad governing coalition. Labor’s partnership would help Sharon push through his plan to disengage Israel from the Palestinians by removing Jewish settlements and troops from parts of the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
