A strike of shochtem is being experienced by the Jewish population of Belze, Galicia, who have thus been prevented from consuming meat for a number of weeks.
The strike was caused by the fact that all the shochtem of the town were jailed for twenty-four hours recently as the result of the denunciation of the “Baaltaxe,” the Jewish tax collector on meat, that the shochtem were mixing up “kosher” and “trefe” meat. The shochtem are now also demanding an increase in salary.
