Hillel Gershon and Rabbi I. Wise, slaughterers for the A. L. A. Schechter Live Poultry Market, testified on Friday that Jewish law prohibited the slaughtering of diseased chickens.
The slaughterers, wearing the traditional skull caps, appeared as witnesses for their employers, who are charged with conspiring to violate the NRA live poultry code by selling diseased poultry. Other witnesses also testified that no diseased chickens were sold by the Schechter firm. Judge Marcus B. Campbell is hearing the case in the Brooklyn Federal Court.
