Shop! Look, and Listen! Of course you will shop—now that you are going to get a fur coat— shop for the best value; look at all of the styles offered by the various shops; listen to all that is told about the smartness and quality of the furs they offer — and then you might listen to the fur coats themselves…. More women chose I. J. Fox furs last year than ever before, and this year promises to break even more records. The first preview of fur coats and fur trimmed coats and suits arrived Thursday at the Fox Salon, 393 Fifth avenue, where the enterprising Mr. Fox, one of our leading designers, has corralled an unusual collection of models from the greatest markets in the world.

From the best models of the most famous Parisian designers, such as Princess de Rohan, Schiaparelli Patou and others, Mr. Fox has taken the unmistakable French superiority of line, combined it with the glamor of Hollywood styles and produced a group of coats that are breath-taking in beauty and yet thoroughly practical.

The silhouette this year is excitingly different and there is a decided evidence of streamlining in the new models. Capes, swaggers in various lengths and sleeves that are full without being puffy are some of the distinctive innovations in the new fashions. We doff our hats to this famous merchant in gratitude for what he has done for the women of America. Now it is possible for Madam to look exciting and exotic without taxing that tender little budget too heavily.

It was a Dutch Treat and it was at Altman’s. The famous contingent of Dutch school children who have been amazing New York while New York amazed them for the past week visited Altman’s on Thursday where they were escorted around the building from the sub-basement to the top floor, literally learning about stores from the bottom up.

Dansley says “Modernistic tendencies are antiquated.” They are right! They further say, “Only what is really modern has a chance of being smart.” Dansley believes 1934 to be a “year of grace” and it certainly ought to be, for they have applied “grace” to their furniture in a rare collection containing so much charm combined with such elegance that it is irresistable. All of Dansley Modern Furniture is now on sale at a twenty-five per cent discount and, that includes furniture that has to be made to order. They are located at 14 East Thirty-eighth street where you will find the ultra in modern furniture.

On Monday, July 23rd, the entire third floor in Macy’s Seventh avenue building was opened with a complete and elaborate display of all lower priced millinery, dresses, coats, sportswear, underwear, corsets and shoes. The entire section has been redecorated and re-arranged to provide maximum accommodations for merchandise and customers and to facilitate displays and the ease of serving people. This spacious bargain fashion floor eliminates the usual hustle and bustle which is generally found in so-called “bargain sections.” Upholstered easy chairs are conveniently placed throughout the spacious departments. Hundreds of women can be served at one time with equal comfort and satisfaction. It is a store within a store for the promotion of smart and lower priced style merchandise for women.

Mid-Summer is one of the most difficult of the beauty seasons. Until now, your skin may have held up bravely, notwithstanding the onslaught of heat and aging sunrays. But about this time, the first signs of weariness begin to set in. Your first tan, which looked so nice, begins to acquire a yellowish, sallow cast —drab and lifeless. Heat and sun have coarsened the texture of your skin. Squint lines make their appearance. You really begin to look and feel like that last rose of summer. This is when your beauty needs some serious attention, and this is when you need Kathleen Mary Quinlan, that eminent beauty authority. Miss Quinlan is an expert on climate as related to skins, and she has outlined a few effective formulas for keeping your beauty calm, cool and collected during this difficult mid-summer season.
