The continued absence of rain in all parts of Israel is rapidly assuming the proportions of a national agricultural disaster. Brief showers in Northern Israel if they materialize tonight and tomorrow, as predicted, will do little to change the picture.
In the Negev, worst hit, Bedouin tribes are beginning to slaughter their flocks of sheep and goats because of a shortage of fodder. Even if the rains were to come immediately, it would still take two months for pasture lands in the arid region to provide enough feed for the flocks.
