Simcha Pratt, Consul General of Israel, told the annual Bikkurim Celebration of the Labor Zionist movement that “The State of Israel has every reason to be grateful to the Jewish National Fund for preparing the land so that it may sustain a large agricultural population and absorb the great influx of immigrants flocking to the Jewish homeland.” The affair was held at the Commodore Hotel.
Mr. Pratt also told the 2, 000 guests of the annual event, which this year was arranged by the Labor Department of the JNF in connection with the Israel Tenth Anniversary, that “in the last ten years the Jewish National Fund has been the greatest single factor in making possible the establishment of numerous Jewish settlements along the borders of Israel, which vastly increased the security of the country.”
Mendel N. Fisher, executive director of JNF of America, emphasized in his address the social significance of the JNF in securing the national ownership of the land and avoiding private speculation in land property. Louis Segal, chairman of the JNF Labor Department, presided at the affair.
