Silbergleit, Reich Statistician, Dead at 80

The death in Berlin of Dr. Heinrich Silbergleit, well known Jewish statistician, was reported here today. He was 80 years old.

For 20 years, until his retirement in 1923, Dr. Silbergleit was director of the statistical bureau of Berlin. He published many works on communal and political problems and founded the statistical monthly, Bulletin of Greater Berlin. For many years he was editor and publisher of the Berlin statistical yearbook and was a member of the International Statistical Institute. In Jewish circles, Dr. Silbergleit was best known for his book, “The German Jews, Their Relation Towards Professions and Population,” which was the first volume to present information on the social structure of the Jewish population in Germany.
