More than 2,500 persons, including Mayor Frank L. Lausche, greeted Prof. Solomon Michoels and Lieut.-Col. Itzik Feffer, the two Soviet Jewish delegates, at a meeting in the Masonic Auditorium last night. Earlier in the day the delegation was given an official reception at City Hall by Mayor Lausche.
At the meeting in the Masonic Temple, which was presided over by Philmore J. Haber, president of the Jewish Community Council of Cleveland, Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver, prominent Cleveland rabbi and national chairman of the United Palestine Appeal and the United Jewish Appeal, declared that the friendship now being cemented between the Jews of America and the Jews of the Soviet Union would be an important factor in helping to solve Jewish problems in the post-war period. Rabbi Silver warned against dwelling on past misunderstandings which would hinder the solution of the pressing Jewish problems of the day, and expressed confidence that the Soviet Union would consider the Zionist question with complete understanding.
