The Jewish Agency executive, which has been meeting here since Friday, today named a three-man committee to draft the demands to be submitted to the United Nations when the Palestine issue comes up. The committee, which was appointed at the conclusion of the general debate on the political situation in Palestine and abroad, consists of Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, Moshe Shertok, and Dr. Nahum Goldmann.

The three Zionist leaders will work on the draft tonight and submit it to the fall executive tomorrow for consideration. After approving or amending the draft, the executive will designate a member to head the Zionist delegation at the U.N. Earlier, today the executive decided to postpone the forthcoming meeting of the Zionist Actions Committee, which was scheduled to start at the conclusion of the Agency session, until a later date.

The Arab Higher Committee is reported to be opposed to consideration of the Palestine problem by the U.N. unless the Palestine Arabs are given special representation. Its stand is being challenged by the Arab League, which is reportedly anxious to obtain a settlement of the problem, which the League feels would be impossible if the Palestine Arabs were at Flushing Meadows.

A reliable report from Beirut says that George Wadsworth, new U.S. Ambassador in Iraq, who was formerly American minister to the Levant states, had told friends in the Lebanese capital that he may be the chief adviser to the American delegation at the United Nations when the Palestine question comes up for consideration. Wadsworth is known to be strongly anti-Zionist.

NORWEGIAN FOREIGN MINISTER IN PALESTINE TO GATHER FEATS FOR LIE

Norwegian Foreign Minister Halvard M. Lange has arrived in Tel Aviv reportedly on a mission to secure information on Palestine for U.N. Secretary-General Trygve Lie, whom he succeeded in the foreign minister’s post. His plans and itinerary are not yet known.

An Agency spokesman today denied a report that the Histadruth and several other Jewish institutions had “by-passed” the Agency by offering to cooperate with the authorities in suppressing terrorism. “The Jewish Agency regards this line of approach as a continuation of the Palestine Government’s line of trying to undermine the authority of the Jewish Agency among the Jewish community in Palestine,” the spokesman declared. He added that the government had attempted in two recent communiques to “drive a wedge between the Agency and the rest of the Jewish population,” and termed the maneuvers “petty compared with the issues involved.”

The Palestine High Court today rejected a plan to set aside death sentences imposed by a military court on three Irgunists captured Dec. 29, trying to crash a road block. It is understood that Max Seligman, the attorney for the youths, plans to carry the appeal to the Privy Council, highest appellate court in the British Empired.
